Derma Rolling Guide: Usage, Care, & Tips
Derma rolling (or microneedling) is the latest in at home treatments simulating in clinic results. Want better skin texture, fewer wrinkles, less pigmentation and improved product absorption? Then derma rolling might just be what you’re looking for. Let’s talk you through what it is, how to do it and (most importantly) your results!
What is it Derma Rolling?
Derma Rolling (or Microneedling) is using dozens of tiny needles to puncture the skin, triggering a wound healing response. This is how it works: when we have a small injury (like a paper cut) our body makes more collagen and elastin to heal the wound. This results in new, fresh skin. Microneedles are able to trigger this response without causing lasting damage to the skin. The Lonvitalité Derma Roller uses 0.3 mm needles, which you roll gently over the skin.
When To Use A Derma Roller:
It’s important to start with a clean face as we don’t want to push dirt or debris into the skin. We recommend micro-needling before bed, or when you can go without makeup for at least 12 hours. Start using once per week, and then increase to twice per week if your skin tolerates it.
How To Use Your Derma Roller:
- Step 1: Cleanse and then remove the roller from the tray.
- Step 2: Holding by the handle in your preferred hand roll it gently across the skin horizontally using almost no pressure, starting from the forehead and work your way down your face in rows.
- Step 3: Go back over the vertically so you don't miss sections follow with a hydrating serum moisturiser - avoid anything too stimulating

Your results with Derma Rolling:
✓ Brighter skin with less scarring
✓ Fewer wrinkles
✓ More glow
✓ Better texture
Microneedling aids in the absorption of products, reducing superficial scarring, boosting collagen production, boosting elastin production, and improving overall tone and texture. You may experience slight flakiness the day after treatment (especially if you’re new to needling) so we recommend using your roller two nights before any major events for best results.
Results usually appear 1-4 weeks into use. Any skin type can use a Derma Roller, however, if your skin is very red or extremely sensitive we suggest seeing a skin professional first.
Derma Rolling FAQ
Q: Does Derma Rolling hurt?A: A little bit. It’s more like a prickling sensation for most people. If your skin is very sensitive it may be more uncomfortable. The roller is designed to be used with very light pressure, so if it’s uncomfortable try using it more lightly. Some people with damaged/ thinning skin may need to build their skin’s resilience up first before using a derma roller.
Q: Will I bleed after Derma Rolling?
A: Not usually. The needles aren’t long enough to penetrate deeply. If you do see a few specks or scratches, use less pressure.
Q: Can I share my Derma Roller?
A: No. Derma rollers are for a single person only.
Q: How do I disinfect my Derma Roller?
A: You should disinfect your roller between each use. We suggest you use boiling water for at least 30 seconds, and spray the roller with 70% isopropyl alcohol, or refer to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Q: How long does my Derma Roller last?
A: With typical use, the roller head lasts about 6 months. We recommend changing the roller after this time to keep the needles sharp and performing optimally.
